Since I started at Oberlin, I began photographing the unique activities that my talented classmates were involved with on campus. The fencing team was a later organization I became involved in, after a friend invited me to take a few photographs for the new fencing website. I quickly became engrossed in the blade-wielding group, especially with all the photographic possibilities, involving the athletic, team, and personal aspects.Uniformity is symbolic of a team, even though each member of the team brings a certain style and intelligence to the fencing strip. The gear doesn't make a fencer, but it is a tangible part of their training and competition, as well as emblems of their sport.
